Local markets rarely move the way national headlines describe. Look at inventory levels, median days on market and the share of listings with price reductions in the specific city or ZIP code you care about. Rising inventory with longer days on market usually gives buyers more negotiating room; the opposite tends to favor sellers. Conditions can differ meaningfully between neighboring cities.
